Sunscreen and a visor or hat are strongly recommended as there is no shade on this trail. What to Bring: Wear shoes with good traction and bring lots of water. Quail Hill Open Space Preserve is a 1.6 mile (4000-step) route located near Irvine, California, USA. Take the Sand Canyon exit from the 405 freeway, towards Quail Hill, continue through the roundabout taking the first exit onto Shady Canyon drive. Directions: The trailhead is in the Quail Hill Community Park, at the South end of the park, and to the left of the Quail Hill Community Center (as pictured below). For those who are more adventurous, the trail continues higher into the hills up to the Serrano Ridge Viewpoint and then down to the Nix Nature Center. The trail is primarily used for hiking, biking and running, is accessible year-round, and is suitable for children 6 and older. Description: This trail features nice views and plenty of coastal scrub, plus occasional wildlife.
